I need to extend my range as much as possible for work. Is it possible to take the 18g fuel tank from a sport to swap into my 95 Sidekick?

No, it’s the 4 door (which is 16v) that has the 14 gallon tank and the wider chassis. All the 2 door models, regardless of engine, have the same chassis.

We're getting confused here...

The SV series, of which the Sidekick Sport is a member, has the wider chassis - SV series come in both two & four door, and were available with two different 16v engines (J18 & J20) and a 24v (H20)

Perhaps we should not use 16v to define anything other than which version of the G16 engine we're discussing.

I think that perhaps Longrod might have been responding to my post in #2, which was confusing. Glad that it’s clarified now.
not hard to understand why the difference when you look at the overhang behind the rear wheel

I had a look at the SE series documentation that I have and as far as I can tell, the tank capacity changed with the length of the wheel base and not the number of valves the engine had - short wheel base (SWB) or two door had the smaller capacity tank (42 liters), long wheel base (LWB) or four door had the larger capacity tank (55 liters).

I replaced the 55L fuel tank in my 2000 GV 2 door J20A engine 5 link rear , with 66L fuel tank out of 2000 GV 2.5L V6 4door . The tank fitted straight in,no mod's & l got extra 11L of petrol

Just so you recognize it - the discussion was not about simply swapping a four door tank in to the two door model - it was swapping the tank from an SV series vehicle, into an SE series vehicle, the SE has a narrower chassis than the SV.
