I use a 87 samurai for my daily driver/farm utv. Weather turned cold and I can't get the dang thing to start. I have fuel up to the carb, but when I pump the gas petal I cannot get fuel into the carb. If I have someone start it and I pour fuel in the carb I can get it to run, once it warmed up it drove fine, I ran it 5 or 6 miles and came home. Shut it off and it would restart. This morning nothing.

I'm a pretty average farmer/mechanic/shadetree kind of guy but I don't usually mess with carbs, especially ones with wires and vacuum hoses. Any ideas where I should start?

The carb on your 1987 Samurai is VERY VERY complex.

The choke has a WAX seal, which could cost you more than $200 for the choke assembly and it might not work correctly.

A new rebuilt is about $450. Then you need to tune it.

There is a guy in the L.A. area that will rebuild and install one for $350. He did it for me and it ran like a top.

I found him on Craig's List.

BTW he does the rebuilds that sell for $450.

Did some more research. Replaced carb with a weber. HOLY COW! totally different machine. I did figure out that the second barrel was not opening all the time.
