I just got done painting my 87 with the stock 1.3 and to my disappointment it would not run when I got it back together. I was convinced it was a carburetor issue so I purchased a 32/36 DGEV Redline Weber kit with the adaptor plate as well as a GM alternator. After installing them both I started the motor and tried to tune the carb but the truck would not idle unless the mixture screw was about 3-3.5 turns out. Realizing this was too much I searched for a vacuum leak and sure enough I found one in the two piece adaptor plate. I was unfortunate and got one of the adaptors that had the stud holes threaded all the way through the top plate. After a few tries I finally got the adaptor to seal but I am still having the same problem. It may be because I have still not got a good seal. I used red locktite on the studs and allen bolts and on my last try at sealing the plate I used rubber gasket sealant and dressing on the gaskets, which the guys at Advance advised to use but it appears to be a silicone product, which the manual says not to use. Why is it not ok to use silicone or RTV? Will this do any damage? Does anyone have any tips on installing the adaptor plate to get a good seal? What kind of lube do you use for the gaskets?
I have done everything I know how to do to try to get this motor to run including new plugs, new wires, new distributor cap, swapped the distributor rotor with one from another parts motor,Swapped the coil with a spare I had, set the timing, checked the vacuum advance, did a compression test, unplugged the computer, checked the distributor rotor placement @TDC, capped all vacuum ports and zip tied them. Checked the fuel pump, changed the fuel filter, cleared the fuel lines including the return with compressed air, tried running it with the return line unhooked. The weber instructions say that some leakage at the throttle body is expected but how much vacuum leakage is acceptable? Can I make my own gaskets for the adaptor plate? Please help

I had the same problem with mine too, so redid it reusing the old gaskets, all I did wa was use a gasket spray seal that makes the gasket a copper color, here is the in part about getting it to seal. Attach the carband tighten it all down, then leave it alone, until the next day if you can, gives it all time to seal and dry real good and then tune it, good luck.
