Well before I try and fix sumpin that ain't broke, is the dome/interior light on a 87 Sammy Soft Top suppose to come on when opening the door? It works up on the light switch. But reading through the manual from Ack's (thanks!) I think the door switch is only for the key reminder buzzer, which is silent..

Thanks!

Should work the light to. Pull the switch in the door jamb and clean the contacts and ground area. The dome light has a 3 position switch for always off, works with door and always on.

I believe the "works with door" setting also allows you to switch it on with the Dash board dimmer control knob. I havn't had a dome light in so long though that I don't remeber. Confirmation anyone?

I have just one switch. It's on the left door jamb. When it got too bad to tolerate, I bought a replacement from the dealer last year. But it's a simple switch, and may just need cleaning to get it working again. I found it easiest to remove the left speaker to access the wiring.

The overhead dome light has two wires, a constant +12V and the wire to the remote ground at the door switch. Ground for the ON position is through the mounting screws.
The next larger "festoon" style lamp will fit if you bend the tabs back a bit, but I found the fixture got too hot. Fortunately, new lens covers are still available from the dealer. I ended up with an LED replacement, which runs cooler and doesn't drain my battery as fast when I leave the dome light on (all night!).

Thanks!

The switch works when the plunger is pulled out, light and buzzer. Next question, is there suppose to be a spring around the plunger or is the rubber boot what pulls it out to make ground? Saw earlier post and will have to add toggle to silence buzzer once I cut my spare set of hinges. I also bought some of the plastic door buckles which snapped during the Christmas blizzard. I reused the straps with a large "D" ring, I little slow to open but it works.
