so my 87 samurai is over heating very quickly at idle (about 10 min).?

the water pump and t-stat are about 1year old

the radiator has flow through it

the fan clutch has little to no resistance, spins freely, when checked hot

it blows hot out the vents

so i ask the question do i replace the fan clutch or take it out and replace with a direct fan (runs engine speed) or electric fan or do i have another problem?

side note, if it is the fan clutch is there a nice electric fan conversion kit specifically made for this model?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is under the hood a stock setup.....that is to say' " Do you have a fan shroud behind the radiator?" Mine does the same thing at idle because I don't run a shroud. How is the temp when you are rolling down the road?

the fan should not spin freely like you said you found the problem.take out the fan clutch its 10mm closed end wrench only. then open the fan clutch put some rtv sealent in it re install problem fixed. i have a 87 sammy did the same thing few months ago works great now or spend 89.00 dollars on a new clutch fan at a auto part store.rtv is like 4 bucks. fan shroud is important but wont cause it to over heat.
