Hi everone! I've had my Jimny JLX for 10 days now. Yesterday I decided to put it into 4WD, just to see...never had a 4x4 before. I found an empty carpark, ran straight (as instructed in owners manual) at 15mph then pressed the 4WD button. The green 4wd symbol glowed and everything seemed OK. Then I turned the wheel left and the car shuddered noisily to a grinding halt. The engine was still running, I quickly (completely panicking by now) put it into first gear, straightened up the wheel and returned to 2WD! I carried on as normal. In the owners manual it says not to drive in 4WD on dry tarmac. Have I damaged (potentially) the system? Do I have to literally be 'off road' before I switch to4WD? Is what I describe to be expected? Please give me good news!!!:(

Hi the orb! Do you mean is the vehicle a genuine article? I bought it from Suzuki Chapelhouse Warrington Cheshire UK. Brand new!

it shouldnt have damaged anything, if anything just some tyre ware.

What it is, the 4X4 system "locks" the wheels in, so when you turn on tarmac, the wheels are not allowed to turn at a different speed like they do on normal cars, that would be the shuddering you herd. 4x4is best left for off road and straight lines.

But with the jimny being so awesome off road, I have found you only realy need the 4x4 or low range for pritty serious stuff

Hi the orb! Thanks very much for that. You've put my mind at ease. This is why I joined the forum: to learn!

Now I need to try some (beginners only) off-road experience.

Many thanks.
