Hey guys. Long time 1g sidekick fan, looking into an SX4 as a fuel efficient daily and possibly an upcoming cross country trip vehicle. I know the earlier modes have the option to electronically select 2wd, 2wd intelligent/auto, and 4x4 lock.

Do the newer ones (2012) still have this option? I’m noticing a nomenclature change from 4x4 to awd in regard to the newer models in some places. I would much prefer that system to a constant (Subaru style) awd.

Also, I don’t suppose “4x4 lock” is actually locking the center differential? More of just a constant torque factor to the rear tires?

Any issues I should aware of with the j20b? Timing chain issues or otherwise?

Thanks!

4x4 and AWD are commercial logos that do not mean much. THe same SX4 is labelled 4x4 in Europe and AWD in NOrth AMerica...so.....
the LOCK mode does lock the center clutch coupler...there is no differential between front and real . THe lock mode is automatically disabled over 40mph
