Hi gang , newbie with the same (2004) xl7 key fob programing issue, the vehicle never cycles the locks as stated in step 7. ?
closest dealer 75 miles away.
it with no fobs
I now have 2 correct fobs and new batteries, but the vehicle will not go into program mode = step 7..

Any help or suggestions appreciated, I also have tried 4 diff year model instructions for programing , = diff years xl7 and grand vitara instructions also???

I wonder if I take negative battery terminal and reset ecm if that would help?

For what ever reason the 2004 xl7 will not go into program mode??

Also is it normal for these vehicles to have a long warm up idle , even in warm weather??

This might give some more info on the remote http://www.suzuki-forums.com/1g-2001-2006-xl-7/115362-2005-suzuki-xl-7-programming-fob.html . Programming mode for a 2005 is mentioned here: http://www.suzuki-forums.com/1g-2001-2006-xl-7/105857-keyless-entry-2002-xl-7-a-2.html#post675042

1. Remove key from ignition switch.

2. Close all doors.

3. Open drivers door

4. Insert key and turn to ON position and within 10 seconds turn
key off and remove key.

5. Within 20 seconds Close and open drivers door 3 times.

6. Insert key and turn to ON position and within 10 seconds turn
key off and remove key.

7. Locks should now lock and unlock automatically to confirm you
have entered programming mode.

8. Press the UNLOCK button on remote and locks should cycle to
confirm programming.

9. Repeat step 8 on each additional remote.

10. Exit vehicle with keys and remote, close door test remote(s).
The idle speed is controlled by both the ECU (using a stepper type motor) and by a coolant temperature controlled air bypass valve. So the idle can be very high until the coolant temperature reaches "normal". There's a bit on it here: http://www.suzuki-forums.com/1g-2001-2006-xl-7/26751-reducing-initial-start-up-rev-spike.html
