Did you check the owner's manual?
It's for the A/T or automatic transmission, N = Normal, P = Power - essentially it changes the "shift points" of the transmission, holding the gears longer. If you want to see how it works, find a clear road, preferably with a slight upward gradient, stop the vehicle, put the switch in N and floor the throttle, then repeat with the switch in P, you should be able to see the difference.
