Hi all,

I've been doing alot of reading behind the scenes and can't find too much of an answer to this one.

My user manual states that 0W-20 oil is the best for my Jimny. Its an 09 JXL Petrol with 40,000km on it. Now I can't find 0W-20 oil anywhere, so I asked the bloke in the shop and he seemed to think that 0W-40 is the least viscous oil going and it would be a good substitute, given the low km's and the fairly mild temp of my area. I'm new to doing my own servicing so I'm not doing anything till I'm sure of it, so basically I'm after any advice or opinions as to weather 0W-40 is the right viscosity to go with.

Any help is very much appreciated,

Cheers

I'm pretty certain the owner's manual for your Jimny has a chart that shows what viscosity of oil may be used based on temperature, find it, select the ambient temperature along the bottom and then look directly above it, what viscosities does it show?

0w20 is a fairly light oil, and I would suspect primarily suited for winter use, rather than all year round, personally I would prefer a 10w30 for mild weather (that's over both the 0w20 or 0w40), or even a 10w40 if it gets over 30*C where you are.

10w 30 is great so is 5w 20 closer to your oem spec guide. just never use a straight grade one like 30w or 50w allways use a muti vicosity one 10w30 5w 30 5w 20 or hot climate and racing 20w 50....and stay away from royal purple. if you wannna use synthetic use ams oil or valvoline or castrol
