Hi, looking to purchase a 2007 SX4 AWD with manual trans here in Australia with only 30k miles on the clock. I thought it was a great deal ...until see on the internet these warnings about knocking noises and engines needing replacement at 80-100k miles? Does this make a Sx4 purchase very risky?

I was also told none of these problems occurred on the sx4's imported to Australia.

Any Suzuki techs or knowledgable folk have any thoughts on truth of the above?

I don't know the exact engine designation but might be J20 something. I do know all the Australian ones were the 2.0 litre petrol( gas).

I thought the US got the exact same engines but I have heard the Australian import was maybe a slightly different unit or quality batch and did not suffer any similar failures.
That info is from a random source though which is why I am not trusting it and trying to find a more definite answer from Suzuki.

The significant thing about 07 manuals is that the 5th gear ratio was changed for the 08s. At about 100km/hr the 07s do 500rpm more.
