My 2004 Verona just started making a clicking (really it's a type of low thumping noise) in the lower front of its 2.5 L DOHC (L6) engine when it gets up to peak operating temperature. It doesn't do it when it's cold. While it's running hot I popped the oil cap off and put my ear to it and it does not seem like the sound is in the timing belt/gear system. So I'm guessing that it may be the water pump, or something else down there near the bottom front of the engine. I have never heard a water pump going bad not make noise when it is also running cold. So I am stumped. I cannot see the pump, if it is below the timing belt area on this engine as that part of the engine sits right up against the inside of the right front fender. I don't have an engine diagram and have not been able to locate one online. No engine check light coming on either.
