Unhappy 04 Verona wont go over 40mph

Have an 04 Verona that I've had since it was brand new. Never really had an issues with the car till recently when it started severely hesitating..as IF something was blocking the fuel..then it would "release" and was fine. This would happen every few days. Check engine light came on and is reading a ton of codes. Last Thurs, while on the highway, the car wouldnt accelerate at all and went down to 20 mph. I pulled over and let it sit. After sitting for a short time, I was able to get it up to 40 mph but it will not go over that speed and is driving REALLY rough! Took to my mechanic and he says the converter is fine, trans is fine. I recently had the fuel filter changed...and this happened after that. The codes are reading O2 sensor bad and spark plugs misfiring. ANYONE else have this problem and more importantly, ANY idea what the problem is? My mechanic says he's stumped!!! I'm disabled and have a million doctor appts monthly. I've now been without my car for a week. PLEASE help! I cant afford a new car!

PS the car has 73K miles

Default Verona Issues

I have had this problem as well with my 04 Verona. Ours turned out to be bad Ignition Coil Packs. So we replaced those as well as the spark plugs. This fixed the slow speed and occasional stalling of the vehicle. We then had another Check Engine light to come on and then needed to replace the O2 sensors (Front and Rear) as well as the Catalytic convertor, and a wheel sensor. It also uses about 2-3 quarts of old a month, and has a loud clicking sound like a diesel engine when parked, and it is almost deafening when driving above 35 mph. Now for the second time the Key is stuck in the lock position and are having it towed to a mechanic.
This car was great for the first 2-3 years, but has ended up costing us more than we ever would have dreamt possible.
