My 2004 chevrolet epica, LS, inline 6, 2.5L is idling very rough, and stalling at stops and when backing up or taking sharp turns. Took it into the dealer and they told me the cover gasket needs replacing. They recommend replacing the cover gasket, all spark plugs and coil packs at a cost of $1500
The car isn't even worth $3,000 and I am still paying the bank loan of $3,000 on it.
I pulled off the engine cover myself, but couldn't see the cover gasket around or near the plugs or coil packs, which is where I thought it is supposed to be. My dealer said it needs to be replaced, and oil has sprayed all over the spark plugs and soaked them. Dealer said it will take 2.9 hours of labour just to change a simple cylinder gasket, which usually shouldn't take the average backyard mechanic more than 30 minutes
Is it really that hard to get at, requiring pulling half the engine out of the car according to them? Dealer also said I need to replace all of my spark plugs and coil packs because they are soaked in oil, causing a misfire on cylinders 3 & 4. I just changed all the plugs and coil packs last Fall
Can't the plugs and coil packs be salvaged and just cleaned up, and the engine shampooed of excess oil?
