Default Possible head gasket?

My sister in law has an 05 Verona and a week ago it overheated. Turns out the overflow bottle is empty and the oil looks like milk chocolate. I changed the oil and added new coolant and the car runs completely fine so really the only symptoms I have are the coolant level is dropping slowly and the oil is getting contaminated. What my dad and I figure is, it's a leak in the head gasket at an oil passage instead of a cylinder, because it doesn't smoke or anything or smell like burnt coolant. Does it sound like we caught a serious problem sooner rather than later? Car has 90k on it and drives fine. She already bought a new car so I'm trying to decide if I should fix this and sell the car for more, or sell it as is for $2000? $2500$? What do you guys think? Thanks for the help.

Andy

We have the capacity to fix it but I'm not sure about the time. Anyone familiar with this issue?

Nobody has any input? Is it a gasket? A head? or are we looking at a new motor? I'm reading about a lot of people getting motors replaced. Does this sound like another case?

Default Verona Head Issue

Having owned a Verona for several years, I can tell you that I have researched this issue extensively. The Verona has a well know issue with its cylinder head. Unfortunately the entire engine will need to be replaced. Once the head leaks coolant into the combustion chamber, the teflon coating on the cylinder walls will be scored and will damage the rings etc. The good news is that the engine should be covered for 7 yrs or 100k miles. I think Suzuki has even replaced engines outside of the warranty as the problem is so wide spread with this engine. Suzuki admitted sucj to me. They just bought my Verona back from me, after replacing three engines! They literally scrapped the car as the warranty claims cost more than the car did.

Thank you very much for the response. I haven't been on in a while so ill give a little update. After the car overheated I changed the oil and added more coolant and also put some stop leak in the system and I've been running it every day now for almost a month. I have not had one issue and the oil still looks new. The coolant level is still full as well. Do you think that possibly it may have been a small leak and the stop leaked worked? It seems to be running like a top so far but I know usually stop leak is a temp fix although I know people that have ran cars for years with stop leak in them. Either way the car will be sold, so what do you think would be a fair price knowing some back ground info. Car is in good shape otherwise. Thanks again for the reply. Also we checked on the warranty and its out and the local suzuki garage won't touch it.

Go to kbb.com to get a value. My Verona always ran well....maybe an occassional misfire...but nothing really noticable. I didn't notice any significant performance issues, just the classic coolant in oil thing that you have experienced. You may get a fault code stating a misfire in cylinder #x...These cars have a teflon lined cylinder walls. Once coolant gets in there, the cylinder walls get scored and the engine will eventually need to be replaced. My advice is to get rid of the car as fast as you can....before it starts to run poorly.

Ok thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it. I've been driving it for 3 weeks now to see how it does, so I'll put it up online now.

The sealer seemed to work for me. I only ran it for a month like that but it ran flawlessly for me. We did finally sell the car to a used car lot for $2300 which I didn't think was too bad compared to the $700 they offered for a trade when she bought the new car. Just want to thank everyone for the advice, we appreciate it.
