Question 2005 Verona Transmission question

Just a few weeks ago I had a head job(thats what the guys I work with said it was called so if they punked me into saying something nasty it's not my fault ) performed on my Verona and it had been running great until I went on a small road trip this past weekend.

When I first hit the interstate part of the trip there was a wreck so it was about 20 minutes of a stop and crawl pace then the flow opened up and the car was fine until an hour and half later when I got off the interstate. When I hit the stop light at the end of the exit ramp I thought a helicopter was flying right over the car because of the loud rhythmic thumping I heard. Then I realized it was my car .

It still drives fine and I don't feel any jerking or power stalls like I have felt before when I had tranny probs from other cars in the past, but the mechanic that did the head job says he thinks it is the transmission.

I am taking it to be looked at tomorrow, and before I go and I want to know if anyone else has experienced something like this and can maybe tell me what I might be looking at as far as repairs. After $900 in engine work just a few weeks ago, I hoping for something relatively minor.

Thanks for any info that can be shared.

you say it makes noise when you're at a stop?
have you tried switching from neutral to drive?
does that make a difference? if not, i suspect the problem would be in the engine and not the transmission..

let us know what happens..

I first noticed the noise when I came to a stop after exiting the interstate, but after that I heard it all the time. It is loudest when I idle in drive. When I am in neutral I barely hear it but it is still there. It's pretty loud when I first take off, and if I driving in stop and go traffic, but when I can maintain a speed of 55 or higher it is MUCH less noticeable. If I am sitting with my foot on the brake and shift it through park-reverse-neutral-3-2-1 the sound changes in intensity.

Sorry if my explanation is convoluted,but cars are not my thing.

Mine makes that whomp whomp whomp sound at times and I believe it is a timing issue. I believe the engine is not firing at TDC (top dead center) and its either belt, module or both. As yours does mine is mainly after either spirited stop and go traffic (when you are changing lanes and stuff trying to get ahead of others) or after long constant highway run where I stop to eat or something.

Default the saga continues

The transmission place I took it to pointed back to the engine, so I called the shop that did the other work and they suggested taking it to a Suzuki dealership.If they did not feel they could work on it it would have been nice if they had told me that $900 ago. Unfortunately, the nearest one is an 1.5 hours away.

I searched online for a repair shop and found one just a few blocks over from the transmission shop where my car was parked at the time. They have had it today and they believe it is a flywheel issue but are still narrowing it down. I am considering changing the title of this thread to "the great mystery of the WHOMP WHOMP"

Well WithoutAClue...what did you find out about the flywheel? Were they able to make any sense of the symptoms?

Well, it is still ongoing. They thought it was just the flywheel but it is also the torque converter. The cost for a new torque converter was unreal so they are putting in used transmission which already has a torque converter on it. I will post a final update when I get it back... if I ever get it back.

Man! The dealer "disclaimed" and warned me I might need a new transmission when I got the fluid changed. So I guess what Im faced with is - Instead of having a couple of years without a car payment I am going to be F.O.R.D (fixing or repairing daily)...its been a while since I saw such planned oblselecense so perfectly executed. Just after the 100000 everything shutsdown. I am in for one more repair and then if it doesnt make it for the next two years its junk. I already told the dealer I would never touch another 'zuki....especially that new one with the futuristic transmission I have never heard of.

Default German Transmission?

I have found out that the Suzuki Verona has a very expensive German transmission. Hope you get it right try car-part.com if you need parts...

I would be very suprised to find THIS transmission made in Germany. It seems to be flawed or the fuzzi logic controller stuff is not working well with it.. anyway..I will try to find a trustworthy mechanic(retired) that can protect me from getting ripped off..
