I suggest you get the trouble code scanned and start from there. I had this issue and well it was bad, turned out i was loosing compression due to cracks between the cylinders. Thankfully I got to the dealer just within the 7year powertrain warranty as the engined had to be replaced.

the exact thing happened to me 2 days ago, the flashing check engine mean that there is internal problem in the engine, most likely a serious misfire, in my case i took it to the dealer, took the spark plugs out, it turned out that the cylinders and the spark plugs are soaked in oil due to wear out which killed the spark plug and caused a misfire in #4 cylinder. hopefully by the replacing the sparks and shampoo cleaning the head of the engine will get that nasty flashing check engine light out of the way and get the engine silky smooth like the way i used to know it.

honestly once that happens i thought my car is done, started to think is that a cracked/blown head gasket, broken piston, stuck valve, burned coil pack, broken cylinder, fried spark plugs, or even a blown engine, etc. etc..? but i am keeping my hands crossed till tomorrow so i know everything is normal again!! cause i read other reviews saying after doing what i am about to do they are still getting the flashing check engine and the misfire.
