my 2007 sx4 awd hatch is acting up again. so i'm back on here again with a broken car. i fixed the water pump and all was good till now. so on my way to work this morn it just started losing power trying to set off from a standstill (get up to speed and it would be ok, ish) it sounded like something was not firing correctly. so tomorro i am going to try to fix this, or at least find out what the problem is, so already cleaned the k&n air filter, nothing!. tomorro going to check plugs, listen to injectors via stethoscope
check dizzy cap if there is one, plug cables and hoses all round. so has anyone had these problems with there sx4? and what did it turn out to be, also any other ideas as to what it could be? any advice is greatly appreciated and welcome tks again tony

Dizzy cap? Do you mean 'Distributor Cap'? There ain't no such thing on these new cars. There wasn't even one on my 2000 GV. NO high voltage spark plug wires either.
There is a wiring harness going to each "Igniter" that sits on top of each plug.

How many miles do you have on that car now?

Getting a readout on that CEL code will tell you exactly what's wrong.;)

Good Luck,

Check engine light and loss of power are almost certainly directly related - it has gone into "limp home" mode. Find and fix the problem causing the check engine light - if it has caused it to go into limp home mode it is a problem that could cause expensive damage if ignored - that is why it goes into that mode.

lol yes there is no dizzy cap. distributer cap as i found out today. ok so i did the code reading it said it was, cylinder 1 is misfiring. so i took out the plugs cleaned and replaced, i also bench tested the ignition coil for cylinder 1 which is producing a spark, next is to change the fuel injector, 166$ from suzuki. (why is everything so expensive for this car?) hopefully that fixes the prob. oh the car is still parked outside work. i'm not driving it. i'm riding my TREK roadbike too and from work at the moment lol. oh well. anyone have any other ideas as to what it could be? all welcome at the mo! oh i have 123000 on the car at present.

I've had problems with K&N type oiled air filters getting oil onto the mass airflow sensor wire. It doesn't take much oil on the wire to cause problems, which may manifest itself as "random misfires" by causing the mixture to run lean. A cheap thing to try is putting a paper element back in and spraying the wire with some MAS cleaner spray.

Millions of drivers have used K&N air cleaners for years and years, with never any problems, (me included) but some folks just don't know when 'enough is enough'.
Even K&N warns about over-oiling the filter.
For those who have done that and wind up with a well oiled sensor, they find that cleaning the sensor solves the problem.

I clean and re-oil my own K&N air filter at every oil change (3K miles) and I'm always careful to NOT over oil it. Let common sense prevail!

Cheers mates!

so compression test done. all is good there. the code said cyl 1 misfire. so bench tested the ig coil. sparking. switched injector 1 to 3 and vice versa. no joy there. put new plugs in helped somewhat. as the car only struggles under load a friend of mine suggested it may be a ig coil not working properly. going to try this hopefully it works as i am stumped if not. someone also mentioned that hoses with say a pin prick in them can cause issues. no nothing about this. any thoughts?
