Default 08 sx4 performance mod issues

I had a RRM Piggyback ECU on my 2008 SX4 manual trans. Car started acting up as though the throttle position sensor, or fuel pump were acting up. Figured there was a good chance that either the piggyback module was messed up, or that the car was going to be going in for dealer service in which case I still couldn't have her hooked up. Module had been installed and functional for 8 months prior to issues, and low and behold as soon as I removed it and returned to factory configuration problem went away.

Road Race Motorsports informed me that there was not warranty on the part and that they felt it was likely a loose wire, not a problem with the ECU and to reinstall and solder the connections this time. I requested specs to bench test the module prior to spending three hours soldering the damned thing and received no response. I expected better customer service, and now am really questioning my prior plan to buy additional product from their company. Meanwhile...I STILL NEED THE SPECS. If anyone has them and can help me out, that would be great!

Also I'm looking to install a high performance clutch for my rig but can't seem to find anything on it. Does anyone know what clutch manufacturer made the clutches for the Suzuki Rally cars or know of a performance clutch off of a Mitsubishi, Toyota, Honda or some other make that would fit?? I find it hard to believe that everyone is doing performance mods to these cars and reaping maximum performance with the stock clutch.

Any type of piggy back system, whether hardwired in or not is going to void your warrnaty. If anything gets wired wrong and the ECM doesn't like it you are on your own to get a new one (~$2000). I'd be looking to alternatives, especially if this company won't provide you with proper customer service for their product that is apparently hardwired into the car. Something like that should have come with a bunch of diagrams and instructions.

wrong. doing ecu mods does not void your warranty...unless the issue you are having can be directly related to what you have done. dont try to correct me. i know im right lol.



as for a performance clutch? the car has not been out long enough to put one out for the mass market. the sx4 mind you has only been out for a few years, and in time of course, stuff like clutches, short shifters and shiz like that will eventually come out. a performance clutch would be nice, but it really isnt at the top of the requirements now to make it a fast car. also the stock clutch can REALLY take a beating.




trust me, RRM (road race motorsports) knows what they are talking about, i think the right questions should just be asked to them to get what you need to be honest. i know i dont post here much, because this site really is kind of the ass hole of the sx4 industry. hop over to SX4 Forums to actually get responses for questions. trust me, we all would love to have you

If you ever had a problem related to anything you've modded to the ECM and you brought it to me and you gave me that attitude good luck getting warrnaty from my dealership. End of story.

im detecting a hint of a rough tone in your response. so ill play off my reply towards both sides of your tone. the rough tone. or the good tone:


the rough tone response:

if you are aware of consumer rights, you are able to fight the dealer if the car or part is still under warranty. all i was stating was that if the part that is messed up was really being caused by the piggyback, or any electronic performance part for that matter, than of course the dealer would say "no, you failed, pay us money to fix it". but if the piggyback did NOT cause any troubles, than its not the consumers fault at all and the part that is messed up can more than likely be covered under the warranty (the ecu). i have gone through it a couple times helping other people out with this issue, and have researched it in depth. its all consumer rights, and believe me, i know you and i both agree that if we dont have to pay for anything to get fixed, than hell, we will try and get it fixed.


now the "nice" toned reply:

i totally understand from yours as well as a dealers point of view if this was to be brought to me. if you mess with your shit than you lost your warranty...flat out. so i can understand the cost it would be and the hassle it would bring upon the dealer to contact higher powers and try and get paid back for said warranty work. as a dealer i would turn a blind eye to the consumer, but unless the consumer comes back to me revealing their rights as an owner and consumer of the car, only then would i look further into detail as to what we could do to compromise.




just a thought, and only tried to give my 2 cents on what i knew about the situation and your first response. i emailed Rob over at Road race to get the instructions/diagrams in a PDF file, or WORD file for you so that way you can work out what the issue really is that is causing these issues

just tryin to help a fellow sx4 owner out

Happy or unhappy customers can either make or break a car dealer.
Witness, several car dealers in my area that got bad reps and are no longer in business. You might say they were "penny wise, but pound foolish".

I guarantee, if I'm p'd off at a car dealer, I can personally cost them tens of thousands of dollars. So it's to their advantage to keep me happy.

Nickel and dime me and I'll cost you thousands. One dealer didn't realize that and they are out of business. It wasn't just me, but many other customers who told all their friends "don't do business with those guys".

So my advise to any car dealer in this day and age, "do whatever it takes, to take care of your customers, if you want to stay in business".

Just some friendly advise!
