I am wanting to put a cat-back exhaust on my '08 SX4 Sport. But since there are no kitsw to fit I was going to have one made and end it with a Megan Racing Muffler. The problem is I keep being told be one of my co-workers, that it will ruin the engine and my check engine light wil stay on, which really wont bother me, but am concerned about ruining the engine...

His logic behind it is the second cat. and resonator NEED to be on there to create enough back pressure for the engine. Can anyone give me some insight or input about this please

Thanks,
jERM

A catback exhaust usually wont cause a check engine light, but if you take the cat out than to much..... gas fumes?.... gets to the O2 sensor and causes a CEL. Some people use a spark plug non fouler to get the O2 sensor out of the direct path of the exhaust gases but that works for some people and not for others it kinda depends on the car. Bottom line a cat back shouldnt cause a CEL but a header back exhaust most likely will.

Thank you for the input on the dash light but I can live with that (black tape works wonders). But Im just concerned with ruining the engine. Will it ruin taking the second cat. and resonator off or not. The O2 sensors are before and after the first cat. and nothing is around the second or the resonator.

#1, your co-worker is wrong, it will not ruin your engine at all.

#2, your CEL will not go on at all unless a sensor has been fudged with at all, but no sensors even get touched in the process

#3 do it :) you will not regret it, it will help pep up the engine even more :)
