Default Garmin Nuvi 760 replacement

Has anyone replaced the OEM Garmin Nuvi 760 with a more updated Garmin model that will fit in the dock with or without the MSN stuff, speaker output and possible traffic?

If so what model have you replaced it with?

I've been wondering about this too. I'd really like to find a newer model that still fits in the custom bracket.

I have a friend I see every once in a while. His wife got him a new Garmin for Christmas. Its just a portable Garmin unit not a suzuki unit. Its a four digit model. The next time I see him I will see if it works. No promises though. Im not sure if he will let me try it.

Answer I received from Garmin Tech Support today 3/29/2011:

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

I would be more than glad to assist you with this issue. The only unit's that will fit the mounting bracket for your Nuvi 760 would be another 700 or 705 series device (Nuvi 750, 755T, 765T, 770 775T, 780, 785T etc...) The unit's with the "T" after the model number come included with a lifetime traffic subscription. Out of the units I listed only the Nuvi 750 & 755T do not have the Bluetooth feature. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

I called my friend and he has a 1350 Nuvi and the connection is on the side not the bottom like our are.
Good info from Garmin greg.

That's a crucial question. What happens when Garmn stops selling the 760? Are we stuck with an obsolete Nav without Garmin's latest features?

Is MSN Direct supported?

The 7XX line is already headed out the door. MSNDirect service ends at the end of this year (12/31/2011). Newer models have some other sort of FM service, some of them are sold with 'lifetime traffic' but I'm not sure of the service.

I wonder if we can change the little bracket mount inside the custom dash mount in the Suzukis? Seems rather odd that Suzuki would have something like this become obsolete so quickly.

Has anyone had a unit stop working? I've had to put a battery in mine.

There was a recall for some units from Garmin... you can check on their website to see if your model/serial number is in the recall list.
