Average MPG Display Reset

Just brought home a new leftover 08 SX4 Crossover last night and am having trouble with the Average MPG Display. According to the manual, to reset the average MPG display you should 1- have the display showing "AVG" and 2- hold reset button for 2 seconds until ---.- is displayed. Well I did all that and the ---.- appears , but the number in the display doesn't change and returns to whatever was shown before. When I left the dealership, it showed 8.4 mpg and has slowly crept up to 12.5 mpg after 120 miles. The miles left in tank number appears to be correct, indicating about 300 miles to the tank.

Am I missing something or will I be making my first warranty trip to the dealer sooner rather than later?

well i tried it too, same result, however, i noticed it changes over time. i've had mine for 4 months and it goes from 23.5 to 26, but i live at 6000 feet so i burn more fuel peroxygen level as well as i have to spend 5 minutes warming up the car in the morning when its 20 degrees or -8 this morning! my brother, sx4ParkCity has put on a long arm cold air intake think and gets WAYYYY better mileage than me, he says around 34-38. i cant afford to do the overhaul now but i will soon because mark my words gass will be right back to $4.50 a gallon by memorial day!

too bad u got an 08, the 09 is the same but with better technology. the garmin bluetooth is the best!!!

You have to drive it after resetting to get a new avg, reset and turn off will revert to old figure. Your brother would probably get better mileage than you driving your car with the standard intake.

umm you have to hold the button down till the avg resets, but if youre not driving, then it will revert back to the previous mpg. you have to drive for a bit for it to recalculate your new avg mpg
