Default 2009 sx4 power steering issue

My daughter hit a puddle today driving her sx4 and when she did the battery light came on and it lost power steering for 1 min. This cannot be normal. any ideas on what's going on? Should I be concerned?

Assuming it was a large puddle I can only guess the auxiliary drive belt/s got a soaking and slipped until it/they dried a little. I wouldn't be too concerned but I would check their condition and tension.

this happened to me years ago in a VW Golf on NYE .. dashboard lit up like a tree, drove to my mechanic's place but once it dried out all was fine.

What's your location? Outside North America most SX4 have electrically assisted power steering.
