Me: New member, first post, married last fall and the SX4 was a part of the package. Grew up with domestics and now have a 2012 Corolla, 52 Dodge, and the wife's SX4. Fun car, unclear on its longevity. I have a fair amount of wrench turning experience and ability.
The Vehicle: 2011 SX4, Manual Trans, 70K miles, All wheel Drive Hatchback, USA, previous maintenance history unknown, 2.0 L
The problem: Oil leak. After reading many of the threads on the forum, I decided to post and seek some help on this one. I noticed a some oil spotting on the ground recently. There is about 1000 miles since the last oil change, but I checked around the drain plug and the filter. I searched around the filter pretty thoroughly and do not see signs of any oil.
Oil is present on the passenger side of the engine, pretty much the entire side of the engine. It appears to be getting on the belt and front drive shaft and spreading all over the place. It is also very prevalent throughout the passenger side wheel well. I took off the tire, oil on the rim, and accumulating on the frame and suspension components. I pulled off the splash guard to get a better look at the engine, but all I see is an oily mess.
Is there a good way to clean off the engine so that I can have a better chance of locating the leak?
Any thoughts/ideas on what this could likely be? Diagnostic steps? I am thinking of changing the oil filter, just in case and it is a cheap elimination step.
I saw another thread (https://www.suzuki-forums.com/suzuki-...leaking-2.html
) with similar symptoms and wondered if it applies here. Are they referring to the crankshaft seal?
