it depends how your unit is bricked, is there a boot logo, does it goes to the warning message ??

The usb port wont help if you cant boot the unit properly

Its been a while but I'm pretty sure there is a logo that keeps booting like in a boot loop.

goto or paste link or save as : https://static.garmincdn.com/autoOem...NA/GUPDATE.GCD

1: Copy the firmware file (GUPDATE.GCD) to the root of SD card.

2: Insert the SD card (class 10 or more, will help the speed).

3: While powering up the radio, We hold two buttons, the voice command button and the top left screen you should see a message LOADING SOFTWARE ... top center of the screen, when you see it, release the buttons and the screen, it should load the firmware update from the sd card. Important WAIT at least 10 minutes.

I did brick my unit into the power up loop and was able to recover it that way, even when i hacked the unit, i was able to upgrade and downgrade the radio or put the original 3.9 firmware.

Brilliant!
You absolute Champion!

Finally! Some hope!

Thanks for telling me the secret button boot sequence!

Garmin support either didn't know or wouldn't tell me.

Any chance you can tell me how to get ride of the warning screen?

I'm querying the wreckers who sold me a working unit for the plugs and their cables and wires.

If I get a chance I'll test it on the daughters car that's hardly ever here.

The radio is a Garmin OEM product for Suzuki cars, Garmin will help to a certain extent, but the map updates must past thru garmin/suzuki web page, and you have to pay for the updates.

But not my case, i can't say more. I install the map directly in the radio.

For the firmware without the warning, i can send you a link in pm, you update it the same way than updating the firmware ...

There is Kenwood DNX and DDX series who have Garmin as navigation system.
They have more features than this garmin infotainment unit. But they are sometimes more prone to failures than this unit.

Contacted you off forum.

Yes, garmin support do the best they can with the limited knowledge they have.

Both units are mine.

I've already paid for the maps for the new unit.

I'm pretty sure the Unit ID is required to purchase maps.
So the same software will NOT work for another unit.

I'm only interested in the original OS and maps that came with the original unit.
i.e. recovering the bricked unit most basic OS.

And just testing the warning removal.

Thanks again.

The removed warning is from an original garmin firmware, but once it is cracked, it goes against Garmin Eula.

Oh and thanks millions for pointing me towards the wiring diagram.

I've been able to setup a testbed on me desk for it.

I can get it to load the software but it immediately return to the boot loop.

After the quote from the demolition car yard for the original power plug $55 and the USB plug for $45 I decided it would be easier and cheaper to make my own pins (5c each) soldered to wire (30c per meter).

Thanks to the wiring diagram from coromonadalix. woohoo!
Black and Red tied together for the + and the Green for the -(ground).
Don't feel like I really need the black pin for accessories.

My Bricked Garmin unit.
Showing 7 - 18v and 15A
Just want to power on WITHOUT speakers, antennas nor USB etc.

My years of saving power adaptors has paid off.
12v with 1.25A - enough amperage to power the unit up - no problem

Hope this helps

Here's the hacked version without the warning message

Mega File Upload - gupdate.gcd

IF you are on version 3.9 it will not upgrade to this version, you will have to force an update manually.

Hold the voice button and the top left screen together, keep holding, the radio screen wil flick a few times, when the radio display loading software (top center screen), release all, the radio should update itself for atleast 5-10 minutes, DO NOT INTERRUPT this process, once finished the radio will reboot automatically.
