Default Interior Dome Lights

Hi everybody, I want to swap out the amber color light that turns on automatically when you open the doors. In the past I found these latex wraps for the bulbs but they have disappeared from the market as of late. I guess my best bet is to find LED bulbs and just swap them out.

Can someone that's done this swap procedure give me a couple pointers on the type of bulbs and the best way to get into the fixture? Any help is appreciated.

Default dome light

My dome light didn't work in my 2002 XL7 I just bought. I used a knife and carefully pried off the cover. On the back side of the lens there were two spots made for a knife blade to pry it open. The bulb just slides out and back in.

Hope this helps.
Don
PS: AS a public service announcement, be careful and don't cut yourself with the knife.

There's a really active thread on the kizashiclub.com forum on LED replacements. A couple of people are working on complete LED interior conversions and documenting what works and what doesn't.

I think for the dome light, you had to peel back the headliner. I think I recall one person that was able to do it without doing that, but it's still a slightly involved process compared to just swapping a bulb.

Whoa! Don't do that. The covers come off easily using a small flat blade screwdriver.
The hard bit is getting the glass T10 bulbs out due to them being recessed. Use a pair of tweezers (or something similar) with insulation tape wrapped around the tips to provide some grip on the glass. Then hold onto the bulb and wobble it sideways (a lot) while trying to pull down. It will come out sooner or later....
