Default A/C clutch problem on a 2010 Kizashi.

I've got a 2010 Kizashi SE. A few days ago when I started the car I heard a slide knocking noise coming from the engine but in a few seconds it disappeared I assumed because it was cold ( 20F(-5C) ) or less it was normal just some knock till all the oil get everywhere. Today however this knock continued for a longer time so I popped the hood up and noticed that the the A/C clutch was trying to spin but wasn't able to. I turned the A/C off nothing changed the clutch was fighting the belt and the belt started to squeal. I needed the car so I drove away in 20 miles everything was ok no noise no problem with the clutch just that a narrow part of the belt peeled off. I know I have to replace the belt but What is causing the clutch to fight the belt ? Any ideas ?

the belt pulley should free wheel until the a/c switches on. If its then "fighting" the belt and not turning you have an issue with the A/C compressor, either its siezed, or the expansion valve is blocked causing it to try to run under a vacuum and loading it up.

If its not free to turn with the belt off (and key off) , it should spin very free and have almost no resistance to turning, then the clutch bearing has more than likely failed and requires replacing. If this is the case, don't drive the car, you will only cause more damage and could have the belt fail without warning.

I suggest you tow it to a specialist A/C repairer and get it diagnosed properly.
