Default Major problems. Need help!

Hello, I'm new to the samurai scene. Got this 86 samurai, carb, manual choke. My idle when warm sat at 2000 so I turned it down to 700. It idles fine but occasionally when I stop the idle decides to sit around 50-0 and try's to stall out (oil light and etc come on and off). What would cause this stalling idle?

Also my heat does not work so I pulled the rod in the heater valve all the way out (out is hot and in is cold I beleive) but does not work and interior does not smell like coolant and window doesn't fog up when heat is on so the heater core must still be okay and that means the lines or clogged? Also when I have the heat on hi (air blows but it's cold). I left the fan on high and heat on max to see it it would randomly kick in, but after driving for 10-15 minutes my temperature gauge started climbing to nearly hot, so I turned the fan off and immediately the temp starts climbing down to operating temp. My intuition says head gasket but I don't know these engines and especially carburetors.

I've also discovered 2 pools of coolant. One right next to the valve cover and other near block (both on left side on engine)

Will only let me post 1 picture right now but will try to post more if needed

Sounds like your fighting multiple issues. It's an old carb and could need going through, you might just try and turn the idle up to 800-850 and see if it works. Others here know the Samurai carb much better than I do

I couldn't tell much from the pics but you HAVE to find and address the coolant leaks and pressure check the cooling system, check plugs and look for the common symptoms of blown head gasket, until you get this sorted nothing else counts.

On the heater, it only works in the floor and defrost, you get no heat through the vents and this is by design. I thought it sucked but I drove my ragtop 15 miles to work yesterday at -7 deg and after the first few miles it heated well and the vents are really not needed to heat comfortably so as strange as it sounds its decent the way it is. If you have no heat through the floor/def then you might have a healthy layer of leaves/dirt/crap over the heater core since it sits horizontal and picks up crap that falls through the cowl vent. I pulled my heater core out when I added AC and cleaned everything, there are easier ways to remedy it if thats why you have no heat and a search will bring up some good stuff. I wouldnt even bother with that until you get the cooling system sorted first, you might find that when its able to reliably achieve and hold operating temp some of these other issues dont present.

Looking at where your coolant leak is and your description of idle problems, I'd be looking for a leak around the intake manifold. A poor fitting gasket, would explain both problems.
Another potential leak area is the small bypass hose, on the bottom of the water manifold tube. Hard to see from above, unless you know where it is.
Your engine temperature fluctuation makes no sense. The opposite should happen: cooler running, with the heater fan on. Check your electrical grounds. This sounds like a ground feedback issue and not mechanically related.

The original stock Hitachi carb did not come with a manual choke. Do you know what kind of carb is on there now? A picture of that, would be very helpful in figuring out your mixture problems, too.

Leaves and crap on top of the heater core are very common. Do you have any airflow out the bottom vents, when the dash control is in the floor position? If the heater core is covered in debris, you'll get nothing.

There are some ways to clean off the core, without tearing everything apart to get to it. Do a search and you'll find a method, that involves cutting an access hole in the side of the heater box.

I've had some success with a leaf blower, aimed at the floor vents. Put the control in the dash vent/floor position, fan off. It will blow the crap on top of the core into the dash vent tubes. You can then put the control to dash only, turn on the fan and crap will blow out the dash vents. If you leave the control on floor, it just blows the stuff back onto the heater core. It takes several cycles, but it will work, if the stuff on the core hasn't molded into a solid mass.

By the way, your picture is of the right side (passenger, here in the USA).

I also have not started the engine in 4 or so days, and just noticed the leak 2 days ago. As for the heat, the fan blows on all the settings, but there is absolutely no warmth or heat coming from it, just cold air

This lever is the gas injector correct(don't know correct term for it but shoots gas into carb). Is it supposed to move with the throttle, because it doesn't. I can also wiggle it slightly from side to side and see a small gap beside where it mounts (mounts in same thing as the choke and throttle)

I couldn't tell you what carb you have on there. Having the air filter hood on, makes it hard to tell. I do no its different than the Hitachi on my Samurai. Throttle is on the opposite side. Couldn't tell you if you are holding the accellerator pump rod, or, something else.
What country are you in? US models are sometimes different, than other export markets.
I do see a lot of other issues under the hood. any time you see that many vacuum lines plugged and cut, it tells you somebodys been under there doing something different, than what Suzuki had in mind.
I suggest you download the factory manual. At least it will give you some idea of what might be missing, or, routed the wrong way (clutch cable, for one thing).
Good luck to you.
