Default 88 Samurai needs new tires; can I go bigger?

I have an additional set of 9.5" rims and would like to put a 215 75 15 tire on them and replace the original sized Samurai wheels and tires, but the tire shop said that my car might not "spin" that. I have seen other Samurais with larger tires that the owners said they did not have to modify anything to get them on. I don't know what the tire man meant, except maybe he only wanted to sell me the 205 that came on it. Any advice for the newbie?

215's on stock wheels no problem. Your 9.5's depend on back spacing.

Mine has 225/75-15s on it and it swings them alright, but I have not had it up to freeway speed yet. I think they rub somewhere underneath and there is really not a lot of space between the tire and fender. I am probably going to go to smaller tires or get a mild lift. The 215/70-15s you want will be about 0.5" shorter.

Default Thanks, I appreciate the input.

I will only be using then on the backroads around here. I just liked the look of the slightly bigger tire.
