Default Rear Tin Top Tail Gate Shock mount

Hello forum,

I have a tough question. I was replacing my hinges on my 1986 Tin Top and while unscrewing the nut that holds the tailgate shock to the rear of the vehicle, the bolt snapped.

Can I have some suggestions on how to fix that?

Right now I am thinking of cutting the post off, threading a new stud into the spot where it was and seeing if that will hold. My other thought is to cut it off, drill it out, and use a nut on both sides.

Any thoughts? is the tin strong enough to hold anything like this? and lastly, should I be thinking about welding a new post aas close to the old one as possible?

I will try to post pictures later today. Thanks in advance for your advice.

If you can cut just the threaded portion off, leaving the collar section intact. drill and tap a 1/4x20 hole and repair with a bolt , just like the door side.
