Question Battery choices for '87 Sammy

I just discovered this forum.

I have installed a Warn 8000 lb winch in my 1987 Samurai and I realize I must replace the old battery installed by the previous owner. The stock battery is a Group 26 size, and there are very few Group 26 batteries on the market.

Can anyone tell me what Groups of batteries will fit the stock battery tray? It appears that a Group 26R battery is the same size as Group 26, and I read a previous post that said a Group 25 battery will also fit.

Any suggestions as to battery group, or specific battery make and model, will be greatly appreciated.

Best thing to do is measure how much room you have in the battery tray. Then take your tape measure to a place that sells batteries and buy the biggest battery, with the highest CCA, that they have, that will fit. Don't forget to measure height too. You don't want your new battery to hit the underside of the hood.
