Default Spectra Replacement Fuel Tank issues

I just received my new Spectra fuel tank (which looks and feels like very good construction and looks exactly the same as stock except its galvanized as opppsed to coated) from advance auto. The problem is, when I took my old fuel sending unit out of my previous tank to install it in my new tank, the foam float was too large to fit through the hole on the top the tank even though it came out of the old tank just fine. Has anyone run into this issue or another issue with Spectra Fuel tanks? Have the foam floats become smaller on the sending units?? I could easily force down in the tank but I don't wanna leave foam particles floating in my new tank... Thanks for any advice you might have!

I have a 1987 Suzuki Samurai completely stock underneath the frame (no lifts, new springs, fuel lines, etc).

This is the tank.

Just saw this was on sale when I posted it, so I bought a new one and will return the old one... Gotta love saving 50 dollars. Will give an update on if the new one is any different.
