Default Undercarriage Cleaning?

Hey all, just dropped my gas tank to install a new one that's not coated in rust and I noticed some bare metal showing where my undercoating has worn off. I'm pretty sure I'm going to just spray it with some rustoleum paint and be done with it... but after searching the forums I couldn't find anything about how in depth I need to clean the area before I spray it? Does it need to be completely clean? If so, what would you suggest cleaning with? I'm on an extremely tight budget unfortunately so things like por15 are out of the question. Thanks!!

Use kerosene to get out the grime wash that out with water and then spray when the area is dry

thanks for the tip jimmy, I'm worried Kerosense will cause some damage to my yard when it runs off though, but i guess it wont be any worse than the oil running off lol

Just follow the directions on the can. Typically you just need to clean the area of all nasty grime then with grease and wax remover then prep by sanding or scuffing the surface. Use a few light coats and let them set for the recommended time on the can.
