Default Air Filter Gasket 86 Samurai

My air filter lid that snaps over the air filter has a deteriorating gasket. Has anyone substituted a replacement gasket? Cant seem to find the oem gasket for sale? Is it important to have this Gasket?

Just rip it out fill the space with some rtv silicone and place the some plastic over the air box clamp it down a let is cure you should have a new silicone gasket when you are done.

Thats a good idea. I will oil the rim so it wont stick and give it a try.

I have not taken a good look at that gasket in a while but if it is made like an O ring you can get kits that let you make your own even in foot diameter sizes. If it is a foam type like the timing cover gasket then you can probably just cut one of them down to size and glue it together. Since there is a gasket built into the top and bottom of the air filter, the lid gasket is only really important if you are using a snorkel system and plan on driving in water deeper than the top of the air box lid. I'm guessing that a bad gasket there will mean hydro lock
