Default high idle and backfire on shutdown

help help help ! i cant get this thing right, the more i do to it the worse it gets. have an 88.5 1.3 sammy, i have changed all vac lines, cleaned carb, cleaned egr, new timing belt, new spark plugs and wires......it wont idle down and backfires when i shut it off. the rpm are 1500, it dropes a lil when i push the brake peddle. anybody got any ideas where i should be lookin ?

Your Hitachi is doing what Hitachi's do.
Either take it to some one with a code reader and have it scanned. Or better...replace the offending carb with an aftermarket carb of your choice.
Research carb swap.........Boxcar....

i see a carb from a corolla will work. do I need the man or which one ?

1975 (TOY-15)- Manual Trans Elec. Choke $117.00
1975 (TOY-16)- Auto Trans Elec. Choke $164.00

1976 (TOY-18)- Auto Trans $188.00

will i keep the smog junk ? or can I take it off ? if so...what can I take off and what do I leave ? i know, i know.....its illeagle and all that stuff.... but theroectically.....?

You need the carb from an early 70 s 2 TC Corolla 1200cc.
The Webber will cost you mpg and works poorly off road.
As far as smog , you can yank it all with either carb. And I do mean all of it....Boxcar...

so far i can only find one with hand choke. is there elec choke? or do I need it?

1976-1977 All 4 Cylinder Engine Remanufactured Toyota Corolla Carburetor *1200 ENGINE *HAND CHOKE.

box.... so do you thimk this one will work ? I know you said early 70s.....this one came up when I searched the 2tc 1200 cc model. or should i keep lookin.....
