Default Is there any disadvantage of adding WHEEL SPACERS & COIL SPACERS??

Hi everyone,

Im thinking to add wheel spacers to my 2010 jimny with the original rims..
also im thinking to add coil spacers to gain some height..is there any disadvantage of doing that?? does it affect the suspension system or steering system..i have the original suspension sys. and im not thinking to change it..(RIMS : 205/70/R15)..

Coil spacers will make for a harsh ride and wheel spacers will strain the wheel bearings. They also make the front tire turning radius wider so it may come into contact with the front and back lower part of the fender. You will have to do a wheel alignment after the lift. With all that said...it would look better than stock!

I have run wheel spacers (1") on my Sammy's for years and have never had a bearing failure that I could blame on it. Just don't go more that an inch thick.

Two kinds of Coil spacers...
1 - 'In The Coil' spacers may be fine for the 'curbside' crowd, but don't expect to take it offroad. These are pieces that hold the coil open and can come shooting out when you hit a large bump or when the coil stretches during articulation.

2 - Coil Base spacers are installed at one end of the coil to make the coil fit in a taller space, kind of like platform shoes making you stand taller... They do a good job, but they will still only give you the same articulation you had to begin with, just at a higher level. These are the better of the two options.

Of course the best answer would be to replace the coils with a larger (longer) coil. A bit pricier, but better than an 'adapter'.

hello mahmood....
i had a suspension lift yesterday in sharjah (industrial area)...
in the beginning i was thinking of coil spacers myself...but then i thought about the advantages of changing the coils themselves for the lift.

i had a 3inch lift in the rear...and 2.5 inch lift in front...
i am very happy with the results! the ride is softer compared to stock...steering and handling is much better (but of course, doing turns on roads is worse because of higher center of gravity).

i will recommend to you to have the suspension lift, rather than just coil spacers.
it cost me dhs900 total, including the longer coils and longer shock absorbers...

now im thinking to add wheel spacers (1 inch)....thanks billjohn, i was thinking of 2 inches before hehehe....once i have a budget again....

Hello from Lima, Peru... I'm new to the forum and I was thinking to do exactly what mahmood was asking about... use a set of spacers, these ones in particular:
4WD1.com - Suzuki Jimny Shock Absorbers, Springs, Suspension & Accessories
But looking at what Billjohn wrote, I'm not sure if they are the "good" (base) ones or the bad ones, because I do a lot of offroading and I don't want them to snap in the middle of nowhere...
On the other hand, if I choose to replace my coils with ones that give me a 40mm lift, will it require to replace the shock absorbers as well? Or can I keep using the stock ones at least for a while?
