Default Engine swap

What other cars here in the U.S. have the same 1.3 liter as the Samurai? I'm thinking an engine swap might be my best option. Also, if I find one but it is a newer fuel injected engine, I can just put my carb (and manifold, I'm guessing) on it, right? What is the weight difference between the 1.3 liter and a tracker/sidekick 1.6 liter? Can one of those use my carb or some other carb? I don't really want to mess with fuel injection, and I don't want to add any more weight than I absolutely have to.

There aren't any U.S. cars that use the 1.3 engine in the longitudinal mount. The suzuki swift has a transverse mounted 1.3, but it takes some work to make it fit. A carbed or a Throttle body injected 1.3L or a 1.6 liter will take your carburetor and manifolds as long is its an 8 valve engine. The 16 valve 1.6 and 1.3 liter engines won't run a carb without a lot of rigging. Any thing that has fuel injection is not going to have a mechanical fuel pump. If you put a carb on a motor that had fuel injection, you will need to use an external electric fuel pump since the motor doesn't have the equipment to fit a mechanical one.

I'm still trying to get my buddy to let me put one of these in. Similar weight and hp. but way more torque.

A geo metro from the right year might also have the transverse mounted 1.3 since they are the same as the swift, right? What is different about the engines that are mounted transverse and longitudinal that it takes extra work to make them fit? Are they not the same engine?

The block and internals should be the same, but the motor mounts, any brackets, wiring, censor ports, vents, oil filter mounts, intake and exhaust manifolds, bell-housings, and sometimes pulleys and belt setups will be different to match the location.

But I already have all that stuff, so wouldn't it just be a matter of switching it all over? Or was that what he was referring to in the first place maybe.

Most likely. And if you are at the point where you are taking an engine that far apart might as well open it up to see what you are working with. It gets to the point where you might as well rebuild the entire engine so you don't have to go back in later to fix something else. I'd say if you got another block lined up, go threw it, build it up as much as you want, then when its ready, pull the old out and transfer the externals in one shot.
