Default T-case locked up

I have an 87 samurai and the t case is stuck in neutral. I did some research and everybody says that its the sleeve/bushing. The problem is that i cant get the shifter to come out. I took off the boots, retainer, and spring, is there something im missing? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where your shifter fits into the transfer case, reach down and press on the plate around the shifter it should move up and down. While pressing on this plate you will need to turn it counter clockwise at least a 1/4 to 1/2 turn this will unlock the plate and allow you to pull the shifter out of the transfer case.

Perhaps the flanges on the end of the shifter are under the 'sliders' in the t-case? try wiggling it and try to turn it a little side to side and see if it moves any.

I have taken off the "plate" around the shifter. I wasnt sure what it was called but thats what i was talking about when i said that i removed the "retainer".

I have tried wiggling it, but no dice. I am stumped, from what ive been told it should come out easy. The shifter seems to have the normal "slop" from side to side but it just wont come loose.

Sounds serious. I just did mine yesterday. My first Sammi. Mine was loose when it locked up. I could pull the shifter up and down but could not shift the t-case. It came out very easily. Nothing of the original "shifter sheet" was left. The shaft continues below the pivot point and ends with a ball shape that is flat on the left and right. I did not see anything that would hang it up.

Put everything in neutral and mash the clutch? I don't know, really ;/

well, im guessing the im boned then. with a little bit more force than i would have liked to use, i got it out. The bushing is fine. so.......on my shift forks....if the T case is in neutral, they should both be in line right? i dont know anything about transfer cases so im just going on a guess. What else would make keep it in neutral?

Well, i think i figured out the problem....does the original shifter sheet look like an O-ring or was there saposed to be something below or above the O-ring that i removed?

Mine was completely gone. I bought the replacement polyurethane one from Lowrangeoffroad.com for $14.95 it has notches so it will rotate past the pins. It is the bushing, spring and retainer cap. Lowrange has a little video on their site on how to install it.
