Default 5.12/1 diff ratio

Just wondering if a pair of 5.12/1 diff centres out of a 92 Vitara would fit my 84 Sierra?

I am running 31" tyres and thought it may bring my ratios back near original.

Thanks in advance.

TO get back to normal with only changing R&P you would need a set of 4.18:1 gears... The closest that Suzuki made was a 4.30:1
Going with a set of 5.12's is way overkill.

Thanks for the reply Billjohn. I have only had my Sierra on the road once to get her home and 1st gear seems quite high and 5th unattainable.
I was just thinking with the 31" tyres will it perform better both on and off road by changing the ratios to bring it back to near original. It has the 1.3 carby engine, I saw the 5.12 diffs for sale and they got me thinking.

Understood. Welcome to the addiction!

Your better bet is replacement transfer case gears. For 31's I would suggest 4:16's. If you think you might go bigger, or you want a bit more low end on the rocks, then go with a set of 4.89's. You can get the gearing kits or even a prepped replacement transfer case from a number of sources.
