Default JDM bucket seats

Anyone try these cheap seats from ebay?

JDM X2 BLACK RED STITCH RECLINABLE RACING SEATS+SLIDERS - eBay (item 160510910497 end time Dec-01-10 17:15:51 PST)

Not planning on doing any hardcore stuff, just a little light off-road and some daily driving type activities.

Opinions?

for normal driving those are fine. The ratcheting mechanism on a recliner is it's weak point and should be avoided for harder core wheeling. I have a similar set of Recaro style seats that have a fold forward option that is operated with a bolt mechanism that will not slip. No recliner lever, but you can adjust them all the way back with the adjuster knob... (gotta turn the thing about 20 cranks for full recline) Couple things. The stock seat mounts have to go. If you are over 5'10 your head will rub the roof. Cut the old mounts out and bolt the new seat sliders to the floor. Use fender washers to keep them from tearing through the sheet metal, and use about 1/4 inch standoff to keep the sliders elevated off the floor so that debris and moisture doesn't collect under the seat and sliders and rust out your floor pan. The second thing, make sure you have them tucked in close to the center tranny tunnel. You need room for your seat belt bolt to clear when sliding, but if you don't get it right in there, the side bolsters on the seat back will stick out past the targa bar and you won't be able to slide them back further than the leading edge of the targa, and the side bolsters on the seat will rub the door and make it a PITA to close. With those adjustments made, I've been running them for a couple years now without issues. I got the vinyl seats though since you can not get seat covers for them. The first time around I got The cloth seats. They soaked up too much moisture when I leave my top off and they get sun dammaged easily. I tried to find covers for them, but recaro style covers cost more than the seats and there's no guarantee that they'll fit your particullar brand or haness hole style. Tried to make some too and that was an epic fail. Bit the bullet and bought the vinyl ones and The vinyl has held up great to my constant neglect.

Default seats

Thanks for the quick response!

So... for an incompetent with not much work space, what's the easiest solution without spending a fortune? Is installing these JDM's easier than putting in seats from an Integra or comparable vehicle? I want to put in a back seat too, so will need the fold forward option. I will probably only drive this 2-3 times a month.

'87 tintop, 32x11.5 with some sort of lift installed by previous owner

I'll post a new thread/pix soon with as much detail as possible, 'cause heaven knows I need HELP!!

there are a bunch of cars with seats that will fit the samurai better than the aftermarket recarro seats. Any seat you put in will require about the same ammount of work. Do a search for it, and you can probably turn up some results on these forums, I know it's been discussed before, but I can't remember which applications worked and for whom.
