Default Maryland Inspection Needed

I've been trying to get my 87 Sammy project inspected in MD with no luck. I removed the whole body and replaced it with a VW Manx body so it's pretty wild looking. It has all the safety and requied items but since it doesn't look like a std car no one really wants to inspect it.

One shop inspected it I made all his repairs but he is still giving me a hard time on my fenders...

Anyone know of a shop that would inspect it? I live in Balitmore but could bring most anyway if it meant getting it inspected. I can send pictures to help out.

So if the shop you took it to wouldn't pass it without the fenders and all the other shops won't pass it. Why don't you change the fenders out so that it will pass? What is the particular issue you are having with the fenders?

If I remember right, the Manx is a 'beach buggy' style body. It is not the kind of body you can just add other fenders to without really screwing up your investment.

You may want to look into other forums that deal with building kit cars. They may know a kit car 'friendly' shop in your area.

it's a fiberglass buggy tub... used to have a purple one that looked a lot like the pic you posted Bill. It wouldn't be hard to bolt fender extensions on if they didn't cover enough tire. They can always be removed "Post inspection"

I had tried what you suggested putting "temp" fenders on.

The inspector had me put in a new windshield, new side view mirrors, stock size tires, hood insulation, a dash light and fenders.

I took it back for the reinspection expecting to pass and he wasn't "sure" on the fenders so he asked a rep. from the State Troopers to check it out. The rep came over 3 weeks ago and I haven't heard back yet...

the facebook pics aren't showing up.

Hopefully the trooper will give you a pass. That's funny about the hood insulation since mine didn't have any to begin with!

Ya sorry new to the site not sure how to post pictures yet. Yes he could have gotten me on other stuff as well I'm sure but he let me slide.

I have a bad feeling about the trooper but we'll see!
