Default Advice on Jimny...

Hey guys,

I've done a bit of research on this site in the past, and it's been very helpful! My ride is a 1986 Suzuki Jimny (SJ-30 hard top). It originally came with a 550cc turbo petrol engine, however, when I bought it @3 years ago, there was a 1000cc, 4 cylinder, carbuerated petrol engine with a 4-speed gearbox. So far, I've rebuilt the engine, installed a new clutch & pressure plate, lifted it by 3", redone the interior & seats, installed a stereo, installed AC, and done tinkering and paint as there was quite a bit of rust on it. Off road capability is amazing, however it does lack an extra gear in the tranny... especially when driving it over 50kmph. I also love water crossings, so the carbuerator engine isn't the best set-up for that.

Hope to get some pointers from you guys as to what I should and shouldn't do. My next main decision is whether I should install a winch. I've purchased a T-max, 9500Lb winch and was wondering if it's too big or heavy to be mounted on the front? The vehicle is already very light in the back, so will I be messing up it's balance by mounting the winch in the front??

Thanks,
Asanga

you've done a great job thus far !!

I have seen Jimnys with 9500lbs. winch before.. shouldn't be a prob in your case.

Try swapping in a 5sp gearbox

the 1.6 16v engine swap is the ticket to get rid of the carb and add some extra hp.

the previous owner had a given me a T-Max 9500lb winch when I bought my 1987 samurai.
It is a tight fit in the Shrockworks bumper but it fits with out having to modify anything.

lol
thanks !

that's my little partner. she just loves ridding in the "zuki" (as she calls it) and any time the camera is out she has to be in front of it. The only time I get pictures of the Samurai without her being in the pic is when she is asleep inside... the other pic she is asleep in the back
