Default Help Importing my old Jimny

I'v read some the threads on this but I think mine may be a special case because it is over 25 years old. I have a 1983 SJ30 that I would like to bring back with me, I am active duty military and rate to it shipped for free. It has a LJ50 3 cylinder two cycle motor. What can I expect to deal with? It is older than 25 so the safety standards shouldn't be an issue, will the emissions get me? I'm trying to bring it to Alaska, can I have it shipped directly there or will it have to go to California for customs? Thanks for the help

Ken

if it's over 25 years old, it doesn't have to meet DOT safety requirements or EPA standards.

there's a link for some of the issues and requirements of importing and registering a vehicle into the U.S.

Try getting in contact with SJ410kelly over at zuwharrie.com (Kei Trucks).

He has (had?) a company that imported Kei trucks from Japan.

Perhaps he can get you in contact with the right people - or at least point you to the rules...

I hope that this helps!
