Default problem with transmission?

I noticed when I shift into 5th the transmission makes a loud click, however my friends 87 doesnt do this at all. My 5th gear works flawless, no grinding ever, just that click when you shift into 5th, it even makes the sound if you shift into 5th while the samurai is at a stop with the engine OFF. Any ideas what this could be, is this a common sound?

There is a switch in the transmission that tells the carburetor that you are in 5th gear and one for when you are in reverse. My guess is that it is the 5th gear switch.

Mine is from a 94' TBI sami. i did notice two switches on the trans when i installed it, but I was under the impression one was for rev. and the other neutral? One the early ones, what does the 5th gear sensor make the carb do?

I am actually not quite sure. I imagine it some how helps to improve gas consumption but that is just a guess.
