Default Engine removal

Okay, so I have looked at the FSMs that Ack has, but here's my question. I am going to replace the whole engine gasket set, for the oil leaks. I also discovered a coolant leak, possibly. It's either a leak, or the guy added coolant before I picked the truck up and spilled it, and it has dripped down below so I wiped it off to see if it comes back.
Anyway, altnough the FSM are a great reference, it doesn't tell you which step to take first for gasket replacement. Meaning, it'll probably tell me each part of the engine to take apart, in a certain order. But I'd like anyone who has done this to tell me what section of everything under the hood needs to come off first, and next, and next till I get to where it's time to pull the engine? (I'm assuming the engine has to come out to do gasket replacements, as opposed to doing it with the engine still in, or am I wrong?
I'll be putting the Sami in the basement in a climate controlled room (better than the freezing garage) so I can do all this over the next few weeks. So if it's easier to take off things like the whole front grille and radiiator, etc, let me know. I have plenty of time, but would like to be done by spring, keeping in mind I've never done this before but am also pretty competent with mechanical stuff, plus mechanic neighbors who can help if necessary.
Is there anything I need to know that you can assume I don't know already? I have ordered the engine gasket set, and the timing belt, water pump/gasket for while I'm there. I also plan on replacing the fan belt and all the radiator hoses. Is there anything I'm missing that might as well be done?
THANKS!

I think the only thing you'd need to pull the engine for would be to replace the oil pan gasket. If you don't have a cherry picker, you can always drop the front axel and steering linkage out. That would also let you get the oil pan down without lifting the engine.

If you're replacing seals and gaskets on the front of the engine then it would be helpfull to pull the radiator. really quick and easy to lift out and it gives you lots of room.
