Default need ballast or not?

My question is.....when replacing an old stock coil with a new one like a msd blaster2 do I have to buy a ballast for it as well? Do the samurai have or need one? It is an 1988.5 if it makes a difference or not. Thanks in advance.

You only need a ballast resistor if its a ballast type coil.

OK, thanks. I don't know much about the electrical systems. I need a new coil and was going to go with a msd blaster high vibration. I thought someone may have used this brand of coil before and would know. How can I tell if I have to purchase a ballast or not? Thanks.

I run a Blaster 2 and I didn't add a ballast. Has run well for probably 10 years now with the MSD coil.
