Default differential switch

can you take a front diff chunk flip it up side down and put it in the rear for a high pinion

Physically, yes.
But then after running down the road for awhile it will lock up because the oil won't get to the pinion bearing...

The oiling channel is designed to keep oil flowing to the pinion bearing using gravity. There is no channel in the top, so if you flip it over the oil doesn't get there.

Good idea though, it's just Suzuki didn't build an open design like many of the other manufacturers.

This is a Sidekick rear diff (being prepped for an air locker), but the Sammy diff is similar.
