Default Whacky Fuel Gauge

Ever since I have owned my 'zuki I have had troubles with my fuel gauge. When it is full the gauge reads below empty, once I get to about half a tank it starts to rise up towards empty and when I'm just about empty for real the needle is on the 'E'. It kind of works backwards. I usually just keep track of my mileage so I know when to fill up but now that I am pulling a large snowmobile and trailer it is throwing my calculations out of whack.

Is it possible that the gauge is just wired backwards somewhere?

Any ideas?

the sensor in the tank is gone, replace it and your issues will go away.

Bingo!
The windings wear out and then it will only read at certain points.
