Default 1987 1.3 to 1997 1.6 16 valve swap

Looking for experience in the electrical swapping of these 2 motors and generations. I'm about to drop a 1997 1.6 16V in my 1987 Samurai and to avoid Code Lights, I intend to use my 1987 Samurai ECU to control the 1997 1.6 16V by by-passing all the emissions control sensors, ie. MAF, O2s, CPS, etc.
Anyone done this before and let me know any trouble I'm headed and or recommendations in my ambitions? Thank you kindly!

not going to work. you need to use the ECU for the engine its designed to run. As in, use the ECU and loom from the 1997.

Thank you 2013GV. I suspected as much hence my shout out. Since my 1987 is exempt from all emissions but not from an “engine light on”, I was primarily looking to bypass all the emission sensors and controls. Will the 1997 1.6 ECU permit me to do that by stripping the wiring for them or plainly leaving them open circuits?

someone will have done the swap and will know exactly how to fool things. Its bad enough doing an 8V to 16V swap, let alone the one you're contemplating.
