Default CV carb selection

Thinking about replacing the stock carb on my 88.5 and reading up on all the options. When it comes to the CV carbs, was the 40mm from HD chosen for any particular reason other than availability? I ask because I already have a Mikuni BST34 sitting on my shelf and had planned to fab up my own intake adapter.

you may find the 34 mm is a bit too restricted and you will lose some top end. Make up a manifold that will take a 40 mm and use a reducer to fit the 34. If you find the 34 isn't working correctly, at least its not going to be a big job to fit a 40 if you need to.

Just found out that Lectron makes a carb for the Samurai, but its a little spendy @ $500. Still, I'd rather mess with a metering rod vs jets any day!
